Artist Bio

Julie has been working in Photography for 26 years. After receiving a degree in Photojournalism at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, she went to work at the Los Angeles Times as a freelance photographer. While raising her girls, she naturally transitioned into portrait photography and concentrated on candid environmental portraiture. She also began to develop a passion for Fine Art photography, with a special interest in various alternative processes.

Julie's love for nature, with its simplicity yet mysterious complexities, has lead her passion for these subjects. Her close-up studies exhibit in fine detail, their unique and distinctive beauty. Julie's technique in creating compositions and use of natural light, illustrates the subjects graphic design, highlighting its shapes and textures. She uses large format cameras that produce the large negatives needed to make high quality Platinum prints. Photographing in black and white and printing using the classic Platinum print process, has been the primary focus of her Fine Art studies.

Julie's photography has been in many galleries, solo and group shows. She is represented by the Susan Spiritus Gallery in Newport Beach, California. She has been an exhibitor for the past 6 summers at the Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. Her photography has been published in magazines and she has private and corporate collectors nationally and internationally. She also guest lectures and instructs in the Platinum printing process at the University level. Julie is a native Californian and resides in San Clemente with her husband Rick and daughters Sara and Lisa.
